CDTlog Launches PDF Print E-mail
Pupil Portfolios - 2009 - 2010
Saturday, 05 September 2009 09:19

CDTlog is our new departmental blog, which '...hopes to capture the huge variety of learning that takes place on a daily basis.'

CDTlog has been established by our new teacher, Krysia Smyth, who joined us at the start of the session. Until very recently, Mrs Smyth has been employed at the Scottish Qualifications Authority, having completed her probation year in the west of Scotland, in June 2008. We expect to post more info about Mrs Smyth on the 'Staff' page of our main site soon.

Mrs Smyth is keenly interested in the integration of on-line tools to aid teaching and learning, and has made a flying start here at Royal High.

A couple of weeks ago Sarah took part in Sicamp (Social Innnovation Camp) Scotland, in Glasgow.

Sarah's proposal was the winning submission.  In her own words -

Recently after a friend's flat was broken into I’ve had the experience of loosing confidence in the police and not being kept informed about what is happening on the case. Let’s have police feedback and case updates on the web. Let’s get police telling and showing us what they’re doing. Let’s use new technologies to report crimes. Let us know what’s happening in our community and where our police officers are.

Sarah and her team have now launched a blog to support the project, and are developing the interface for the project's main site.  They have also begun to make contact with police organisations and other interested groups, to carry out interviews.

Sarah's degree show took place around three weeks ago. Miss Weir, Mrs Williams, Mr Myles and Mr Black went along to Glasgow School of Art to meet Sarah and take a look.

Sarah's display featured her three main projects, each with a supporting video recording, presentation boards and a bound volume - very slick.  During the show, Sarah became the first ever recipient of the Medici Service Design Award.  She also secured sponsorship to enable her to continue her studies on the Masters course next year, at Glasgow School of Art.  Over the summer, Sarah will be working with leading Service Design company Think Public, in London.

David left us in June 2004, and has just completed the second year of the Graphic Design course at Napier University.

Since launching 'The Thin King Thinks' in March this year, David had become an avid blogger.  He mostly displays and discusses examples of his own work, often posting work-in-progress.  David is active in seeking out graphic design competitions to enter.  His compositions are inventive and witty.

We hope that pupils in our Advanced Higher Graphics class will aspire to emulate David's blog in the coming session.
